Remember how I'm always writing recipes down on scraps of paper and then losing them? Graham gave me the cutest, most thoughtful gift - a little journal with letterpress printed eggs on it! He hinted that my Christmas gift would be a journal, but I thought it was just so sweet that he chose one with eggs on it. I used to have a beautiful embossed leather one from a friend, but it's gone now. She gave it to me several years ago and said I could write recipes in it. That was long before I even thought about doing anything like this, but I guess she knew long before I did. Buds.
Basma Kavanagh, who we know through our local art gallery, makes the egg journals. You can find them, and a bunch of her other work, on her website. She's an incredible poet and artist. She was a finalist in the 2014 CBC Poetry Prize awards for her poem Coda. If you have the time, please read it. It's stunning. She's really sweet, too. Not a jerky poet.
