Fermented

Vegetarian fermented recipes like sourdough, sauerkraut, and more. If you have my cookbook you might know that I like to work with fermented foods – I’m now adding more fermented recipes here, too. Learn to make fermented staples yourself, reduce your food waste, and become more confident with basic and more complicated ferments.

Start with fermented drinks by making a ginger bug (fermented ginger) and ginger beer. These are the simplest and most accessible fermented recipes, excellent for beginners.

Try making your own apple cider vinegar and rye sourdough starter, more recipes that don’t need any hard-to-find ingredients. Once it’s ready, use your starter to make sourdough bread: try sourdough rye bread and whole grain einkorn sourdough.

It’s easy to incorporate fermented foods into your diet once you can make them yourself and know what you like. We find drinks the easiest, and almost always have some ginger beer or kombucha on the go. Sauerkraut and sourdough bread are delicious and easy to adjust to your personal preferences. Fermenting might seem difficult or hard to begin, but really, you just need a clean glass jar!
